AAUP-Purdue sides in solidarity with the ISTA for increasing funding for public education

On behalf of the Purdue-West Lafayette chapter of the American Association of University Professors, the chapter executive committee expresses its full support and solidarity with Indiana teachers and the Indiana State Teachers Association for better wages and working conditions.

The ISTA is hosting a rally gathering at the Statehouse in Indianapolis November 19th.  The “Red for Ed” rally will draw thousands of teachers.  Many school districts in Indiana have already announced that they will close for the day, including the Lafayette School Corporation in our area.

AAUP-Purdue sees the fight for quality higher education and the fight for K-12 education in Indian as one struggle.  Last year, AAUP-Purdue issued a statement of support for Indiana teachers, and some members participated in the West Lafayette School Corporation’s “Walk-In” to call attention to lagging teacher salaries and funding support for education.

This year, we encourage members of the AAUP-Purdue chapter to show up in solidarity for public school teachers by attending the November 19th rally and wearing their red AAUP-Purdue t-shirtsSee this link for more information about the Red for Ed rally.
